Dr. Dennis H. Cremin reflects on Grant Park history.
Chicago's Grant Park has hosted numerous significant events including, most recently the Chicago Blackhawk's Stanley Cup Championship victory celebration and the Lollapalooza Music Festival.
“The park has become the public face of the city. It really has provided a place to celebrate key events, such as those related to Lincoln's Funeral train to President Obama's election victory in 2008,” asserted Dr. Dennis H. Cremin in his new book that examines the park's history.
“Grant Park: The Evolution of Chicago's Front Yard” began distribution this summer. Cremin, professor of History and director of the Lewis University History Center, published the book through Southern Illinois University Press. Cremin made an appearance last month on WTTW's “Chicago Tonight,” discussing Grant Park’s significance and history.
The Naperville resident will discuss the book at the Gaylord Building's Discovery Dinner series on Sept. 12. In a well-illustrated presentation, Cremin will highlight the urban and cultural history of the park. He will also be available to sign books.
