Lewis University Welcomes More Than 7,200 Students for Start of Fall Semester

As classes began on August 24 for the 2026-27 academic year, Lewis University welcomed more than 7,200 students enrolled across its undergraduate and graduate programs.
As a Catholic and Lasallian institution, Lewis University remains focused on providing students with a transformational educational experience that emphasizes academic excellence, service, leadership, and preparation for meaningful careers.
While official census enrollment figures will be finalized later this semester, current enrollment stands at 7,206 students, including 5,412 undergraduate students and 1,794 graduate students. These figures include students enrolled in Lewis University programs in Guyana.
The University is welcoming a large incoming class this fall, including 679 new first-year students and 462 transfer students, underscoring the continued demand for a Lewis University education. Undergraduate enrollment currently includes 3,460 traditional students and 1,957 adult, St. Augustine College, and non-degree students.
More than 1,000 students are living on campus in Romeoville this year, helping create an active residential community as students return to classrooms, residence halls, laboratories, athletic facilities, and campus gathering spaces.
Lewis begins the academic year with several important milestones. The University is now officially designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), recognizing that at least 25 percent of its undergraduate students identify as Hispanic. The designation affirms Lewis University's commitment to expanding educational opportunity and supporting student success for a diverse student population.
In another significant development, Lewis University launches its inaugural Women's Flag Football season this year, expanding opportunities for female student-athletes and joining one of the nation's fastest-growing collegiate sports.
