Published: August 8, 2024.

Dr. Hannah Klein, assistant professor in the Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies Department at Lewis University, and Julianna Henrichs, a senior Criminal Justice major, were recent guests on the "Good Morning Aurora" podcast

The episode focused on Gun Violence Prevention in Aurora and Kane County. It also discussed the Firearm Focus Group event held at the Kane County Health Department.

Dr. Klein and Henrichs joined Lewis University Alumnus Steve McHugh of Be SMART for Kids and Kaitlin Soriano of the Kane County Health Department to discuss the opinions and ideas shared at the Focus Group event and explore the next steps for enhancing public safety within the community.

“We were honored to be part of this important conversation on gun violence prevention," said Klein. The criminal justice assistant professor has mentored several students who have been researching firearm safety in recent years. This summer, she has been the faculty mentor of Henrichs in the Dr. James Girard Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program.

“It was encouraging to see community members come together to share their perspectives and collaborate on solutions. Julianna’s participation as a student highlights the valuable contributions Lewis University students make to addressing critical issues in our society,” she added.

The "Good Morning Aurora" podcast is a daily news podcast covering Aurora, Illinois. The episode featuring Dr. Klein and Henrichs is available on Apple Podcasts and other major podcast platforms.
