Published: May 13, 2024.

The Lewis University Athletic Department has won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup for the second straight year and the third time in school history as announced by the league office on Monday (May 13). The Flyers earned the award for the 2023-24 campaign by posting the highest finish in the league's 10 sports that all 14 schools in the league sponsor with a total of 113 points. Lewis finished runner-up for the GLVC All-Sports Trophy with 181 points.

"Winning the Commissioner's Cup for the second consecutive year is a culmination of efforts by so many within the Flyer community," Director of Athletics John Ashaolu said. "From our alums, parents, donors to our faculty and our leadership which includes President-Dr. David Livingston and Provost-Dr. Chris Sindt and countless other administrators who continually support our athletic program. Through their tireless work ethic and dedication to providing an elite student-athlete experience, our esteemed staff of coaches, athletic trainers and administrators are essential to this success.  These collective efforts play an important role in winning this award in consecutive years and to sustain a championship culture."

Points are allocated for the Commissioner's Cup based on the athletic department's finish in the GLVC's postseason tournaments and league standings in baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, softball, women's indoor and outdoor track and field and volleyball.

Lewis made the GLVC Championship Tournament in all 10 of these sports this year, highlighted by a league title in women's cross country, volleyball, women's basketball and both indoor and outdoor track and field. The Flyers also finished as runners-up in men's soccer and men's basketball.

The GLVC All-Sports Trophy is presented to the institution that demonstrates the best all-around performance in the league's 24 sponsored sports. Points are allocated based on overall finish in the respective sport's conference tournament and league standings. It is the third straight runner-up finish for the Flyers and sixth consecutive top-five performance.

Indianapolis was the winner of the GLVC All-Sports Trophy with 199.5 points.

Women's cross country, men's cross country, women's volleyball and women's basketball all won the conference championship, receiving 13 points each. Women's track and field also won the league crown for indoor and outdoor, while the men's indoor team won the crown adding 12 points to the total, while women's soccer, men's basketball and softball were runners-up and were awarded 12 points each. Men's track and field outdoor picked up 11 points for their runner-up finish in outdoor, while men's soccer, women's tennis and baseball all earned nine points apiece.
