Lewis University Supplies Pembroke Heat their Homes

Lewis University Supplies Pembroke Heat their Homes

Published: April 15, 2024.

More than two tons of firewood was chopped and loaded onto a truck for delivery to Pembroke Township on April 5 at Lewis University in Romeoville.

It is the second year the Lewis University community partnered with several other organizations and businesses to transform Burnham Centennial Nature Trail trees into firewood. Most Pembroke Township residents lack natural gas to heat their homes and depend on fireplaces to stay warm during the winter.

This year, more than three dozen participants chopped over 40 tons of wood, reaching their goal to surpass last year's weight of 64,000 pounds and provide firewood for families.

The Log Splitting event was coordinated by Dwight DeVries, superintendent of grounds, and Nia White, coordinator of Peer Ministry and Service.

Lewis University is an innovative Catholic university offering market-relevant undergraduate and graduate programs to 6,500 students. Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis University is nationally recognized for preparing intellectually engaged, ethically grounded, and globally-connected graduates who impact the world for the better.
