Community Notice – Emergency Communication Protocols

Published: September 21, 2023.

In light of the recent headlines about the tragic homicide of four people in Romeoville, the Campus Emergency Planning Team and the Campus Violence Prevention Committee would like to remind the community of important resources related to emergency communications. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities.

We understand the incident in Romeoville might have raised a few questions as to why the Lewis University Mass Notification System was not activated. Please be assured that the Lewis University Police Department was aware of the situation, and verified that it was an isolated incident that posed no threat to campus.

As a reminder, if a situation that potentially threatens campus or requires a behavioral change from the community, such as “avoid certain areas” or “lock your doors,” the Lewis University mass notification system will be activated. RAVE will be used to send critical messages to Lewis University students, faculty, and staff over multiple platforms: text messages (SMS), email, desktop alerts, and voice calls. Information and updates will be posted on www.lewisu.edu.

Your safety is our utmost concern, and the mass notification system is a crucial tool in our efforts to keep you informed during emergency situations. Please feel free to call or write with any questions or concerns.
