World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration Lands More Resources for Lewis University

Published: August 17, 2022.

Lewis University Aviation was among the more than 500,000 participants in the 2022 Experimental Aircraft Association’s Fly-In held in Oshkosh, Wisc. The July 25-31 "World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” attracted participants from more than 80 countries to network and celebrate the past, present, and future in the world of flight.

During the event, Lewis University signed an agreement with Frasca for three new simulators. The Frasca Reconfigurable Training Devices will enhance flight training at Lewis University. Two of these devices can mirror the Cessna 172S. The third simulator can replicate both the Cessna and Piper PA-44 Seminole experiences. The devices should be installed and ready for use before the first day of class.

On July 30, Lewis University Advancement and the Aviation Department hosted a dinner and get-together for Lewis University alumni, parents, and friends at the Lewis University booth ahead of that night's EAA AirVenture night air show. Present were 50 alumni, parents, friends, their children, and UA staff members Brandon Hoeft, executive director of development, April Lacey-Hill, leadership gift officer and Dr. Christopher White, dean of the College of Aviation Science and Technology, and Matt Berger, head dispatcher, adjunct faculty member and flight instructor.

Networking during the EAA event led Piper Aircraft to bring a Pilot 100i to the Romeoville campus on Monday, August 1. Certified Flight Instructors and administration of the Department of Aviation and Transportation flew the Piper 100i training aircraft to vet the latest technologies to enhance student learning at Lewis University. The aircraft was benchmarked to determine if it is a viable option when considering training fleet enhancement.
