Schefske Recognized as James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Honoree

Published: May 11, 2020.

Lewis University senior shortstop Ryan Schefske (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) has been recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the sport of baseball as an honoree of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. Schefske is one of 16 student-athletes honored, with one coming from each league institution.

The representatives were chosen by their respective coaches to have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior this season.

These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

Schefske played four seasons at Lewis, appearing in 117 games. He recorded 113 hits, including 22 doubles, six triples and 16 home runs, while scoring 79 runs and driving in 78. Schefske was an All-GLVC Second Team selection in 2019.

Schefske and his fellow honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two overall James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced next Monday (May 18).
