Lewis University Hosts Commencement Ceremonies May 17-19

† † † Lewis University held Commencement ceremonies for close to 1,800 students and bestowed two honorary degrees May 17-19. August and December graduates were honored on May 17-18 and May graduates were honored May 19.

††††† On Friday, May 17, the Graduate Degree Ceremony honored 340 students, including the two Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership recipients and nine Doctor of Nursing Practice recipients.

††††† On Saturday, May 18, more than 450 students were honored with bachelor degrees. The Professional Colleges (Business, Education and Nursing) & Accelerated Programs Undergraduate Degree Ceremony preceded the College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Degree Ceremony.

††††† Highlights included the presentation of the Lasallian Student Commencement Address by William Z. Riley, Jr., who received a bachelorís degree in Aviation Administration & Public Policy.† Abby A. Becker, who received a bachelorís degree in Sociology, was honored as the Father Aquinas Award recipient. The award has been given annually since 1955 to a student who has shown exemplary personal, intellectual and social development in the spirit of the Mission of Lewis University.

††††† Kay Bolden, retired CEO of the Warren-Sharpe Community Center in Joliet, received an honorary doctoral degree.

††††† The day concluded with graduates, their families and friends as well as Lewis University faculty and staff, participating in the Baccalaureate Mass. The special Catholic Mass was in honor of graduates.

††††† On Sunday, May 19, three degree ceremonies honored about 720 undergraduate degree recipients and 270 graduate degree recipients. The Lasallian Student Commencement Address was presented by Garrett McMahon, who received a bachelorís degree in Nursing.† The Professional Colleges (Business, Education and Nursing) & Accelerated Programs Undergraduate Degree Ceremony preceded the Graduate Degree Ceremony. Three students received a Doctor of Education and Maureen McCormick received a Doctor of Nursing. †

††††† The College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Degree Ceremony concluded the day of celebration. Zanetta Quagrainie was honored as the Father Aquinas Award recipient. The award has been given annually since 1955 to a student who has shown exemplary personal, intellectual and social development in the spirit of the Mission of Lewis University.

††††† An honorary doctoral degree also was presented to Dr. Michael Galligan-Stierle, president and CEO of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities.
