Published: April 11, 2016.

Video game developers Tom Sakkos and Mirza Baig of NetherRealm Studios, Lola Beckman-Stevens, ITSM engineer at General Growth Properties, and Michael Melendrez, chief recruiter at Red Circle, visited the Lewis Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences this spring.

Sakkos and Baig opened up to students about how they got into the video game developing industry, which led to them eventually work for the makers of popular video games such as “Mortal Kombat,” NetherRealm Studios. Sakkos and Baig described the work environment and culture at NetherRealm as they encouraged students to pursue game design as their career.

Beckman-Stevens presented at the Computer Science Spring Keynote on March 15 and discussed the advantages of using Agile Software Methodology in all types of organizations. Using this software, Beckman-Stevens showcased ways to create enterprise-class software on time and on budget.

“The 7 Deadly Sins of Interviewing –Why Candidates DON’T Get Hired,” also helped students with their careers. The event provided students with resume do’s and don’ts, interview preparation and job search advice. Melendrez and the Math Club hosted the event.
