Lewis' Brawner-Henley nets WBCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades

Published: March 25, 2014.

Lewis University sophomore forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches All-American Team Honorable Mention, the WBCA announced on Monday (March 24).

Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to earn All-American honors since 2007 when Darcee Schmidt and Mary Moskal were named as Kodak First Team and Honorable Mention All-Americans, respectively.

"With as much work as Mariyah has put in this past off-season," Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. "She is very deserving of All-America status.

"I don't know if she still understands how good she is and how good she can be."

The 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year and All-GLVC First Team honoree led the league averaging 18.2 points-per-game while ranking first in the conference and fourth in the nation in rebounds (12.1 rpg.). Brawner-Henley, a 2014 Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team selection, led the nation with 23 double-doubles in 29 games.

The No. 11 Flyers finished the season with a 23-6 record, making their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
