Now is the time to begin your health information management career as future opportunities look promising. The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates the job outlook projected growth of medical and health services managers to be 32 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations, with a median annual wage of $104,280 in May 2020.
Individuals interested in pursuing this career by earning an online Health Information Management master’s degree can apply now to join the inaugural class of the new Lewis University Health Information Management program. Classes begin in Spring 2022.
“The HIM program is designed to prepare professionals with the skills required to navigate the modern healthcare landscape,” Dr. Susan Muller, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, commented. “We started the HIM program because healthcare is increasingly becoming technical, it is delivered in a variety of modes and healthcare professionals rely on information to provide quality care to diverse populations.”
Potential candidates should have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in any field. Common majors include health information administration, nursing, healthcare leadership, health sciences, psychology, business administration, exercise science and biology.
The Lewis University HIM program is a 36-credit hour program offered completely online. The curriculum is designed in an accelerated 8-week course format.
The Lewis University program will seek national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Currently, there are only 10 accredited programs in the United States.
