Lewis Women’s Swimming Wraps Up GLVC Swimming And Diving Championships In Sixth Place

Lewis' women's swimming team finished sixth with 250 points at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimming and Diving competition which concluded on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Ianthe Van Der Westhuizen and Maria Rodriguez finished ninth and 12th respectively in the 1650 freestyle. Van Der Westhuizen finished with a time of 17:32.07 while Rodriguez finished at 17:42.17.

Ebony McCray (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria High School) set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle and won the B-Final of the event with a time of 51.57 seconds. She also earned a provisional qualifying mark in the event.

Stephanie Palczynski (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South High School) had the Flyers best finish in the meet finishing third in the 200-yard backstroke breaking her own school record by over a second and picked up a provisional qualifying mark as well.

Meghan Bower finished fourth in the B-Final of the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in a time of 2:25.39.

Lewis' 400-yard freestyle team of Palczynski, McCray, Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama) and Gabby Jeffers (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) took fifth in the event finishing in a time of 3:32.89 while the team of Meghan Beese (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), Van Der Westhuizen, Rachel Marsh (Houston, Texas/Mirabeau B. Lamar) and Marie Grzybek (Inverness, Ill./William Fremd) finished eighth in the B-Final of the event with a time of 3:42.22.

Drury won the women's competition with 1,012 points while Indianapolis came in second with 784.5 points and Truman State was third with 456 points.

The Flyers await to hear if they'll be sending anyone to the national meet in Indianapolis next month.
