Quaynor Conducts Study on UNICEF Program in Liberia

Published: February 4, 2019.

Dr. Laura Quaynor, Assistant Professor in the Division of Foundations, Leadership, & Literacy (College of Education) traveled to Liberia, West Africa, in November 2018 to complete a study of the Gender Equitable Education Programme for UNICEF Liberia.

This program served girls and boys in 45 junior high schools in six counties across Liberia, providing after-school tutoring, meals, girls’ clubs, and re-enrollment support for girls who had dropped out of school. In Liberia, 38 percent of young women ages 20-24 have children before the age of 18, and early motherhood is a major barrier to completing junior high school for girls
