Lewis Women's Basketball headed to NCAA Tournament

For the sixth straight season, Lewis's women's basketball team will be playing in the NCAA Tournament. They learned this evening as the NCAA announced the field of 64. The Flyers are the sixth seed in this upcoming weekend's Midwest Region tournament which will be held in Ashland, Ohio. They will take on the number three Southern Indiana for the fourth time this year.

Lewis (23-7) advanced to the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament where it lost to Southern Indiana 76-68 on Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill.

The Flyers will be making their 13th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance. They're 6-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and won the Midwest Regional championship in 2015. Last year Lewis was defeated in the opening round by Saginaw Valley 70-66.

The top-eight teams in the Midwest Region advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Midwest Region is comprised of the GLVC, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The winners of the three conference tournaments all received automatic bids, those were Ashland, Drury and Hillsdale.

This year's regional will be played Friday, March 9 through Monday, March 12. Ashland, the defending national champions, earned the top seed and will host the Midwest Region Tournament.
