Lewis University DNP Student Reiland Receives Grant for Patient Experience Improvement

Published: November 27, 2017.

Lewis University Assistant Professor of Nursing Nanci Reiland received a $1,000 grant from the Beryl Institute, a community of practice dedicated to patient experience improvement.

The Beryl Institute Patient Experience Scholar Program supports professional doctoral students as they conduct research associated with the patient experience. A student in Lewis University’s Doctorate of Nursing Practice program, Reiland will be using the funds to implement training in motivational interviewing skills for healthcare providers with Will County Community Health Center.

“The long-term goal is to increase and enhance the partnership model of provider-patient relationships,” Reiland said. “I hope to see a positive impact on the use of chronic care management with patients, particularly those with diabetes and hypertension,” she added.

Identified, recognized and supported by The Beryl Institute, Patient Experience Scholars are scholar-practitioners at the forefront of expanding the research on the patient, resident and/or family experience, representing a community committed to exploring ideas and practices that will lead to positive healthcare outcomes.

The Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree is the terminal practice degree for the profession of nursing. The 30-credit hour program builds upon advanced clinical skills with coursework on quality improvement, evidence-based performance, and systems approach to meeting the healthcare needs of the public.
