Aviation Career Conference Launches Aspirations of Future Aviators

An exploration of career possibilities available in the fields of aviation and transportation were offered during the annual Aviation Career Conference November 18 on Lewis University’s main campus in Romeoville. The free conference was designed for anyone interested in a career in aviation.

More than 40 regional representatives joined with Lewis University aviation students and faculty to provide informational sessions, which included various careers of interest, such as airport management, FAA administration, unmanned aircraft systems, aviation maintenance technicians, tower air traffic control, radar air traffic control, aircraft dispatch, commercial airline pilot, regional pilot corporate pilot, military aviation and logistics and transportation.

Students and parents were able to choose from multiple breakout sessions throughout the day led by company representatives. Aviation professionals leading the breakout sessions included chief pilots, first officers, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, supply chain managers, and operations managers from Midway and O’Hare International Airports, Clow Airport, SkyWest, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, the Hub Group, Republic Airline and Kraft Foods, among others.

This unique opportunity to learn first-hand from real-world aviation professionals was hosted by Lewis University, the oldest aviation program among universities in Illinois. It is the only aviation program in the state that has an airport on campus. Lewis University offers undergraduate degrees in Aviation & Aerospace Technology, Aviation Administration, Aviation Maintenance Management, Air Traffic Control Management, Aviation Security, Aviation Flight Management, Transportation Administration, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
