An update to the Department of Education’s College Scorecard has been released which now includes breakdowns of median salary levels of graduates by major.
The Department of Education said they hope this information will help students and parents to better evaluate borrowing levels they are comfortable with based on potential future earnings. Up until now, the Scorecard included a single median salary range for all graduates of each institution.
While we support the transparency of this type of enhanced information can provide, we also know many graduates of liberal arts programs pursue careers not directly related to their major of study.
At the same time, we understand that graduates of our computer science, nursing, business and aviation programs generally receive higher starting salaries than other majors and to the extent that this additional documentation aids in that understanding it can be helpful to families.
