On October 1, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) updated its database to include all newly accredited programs. It is a challenging process to receive ABET accreditation, and it provides assurance to students that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which their program prepares graduates.
The ABET website provides the ability to search by school and/or program and is a convenient tool to help research accredited programs.
I am proud to announce that our bachelor of science in Computer Engineering has earned this prestigious accreditation.
- We are now one of only eight universities in Illinois and just the third private to receive ABET accreditation for computer engineering (Northwestern University and Illinois Institute of Technology are the other private institutions).
- We also become just the eleventh Catholic university in the United States to be accredited for computer engineering (Fairfield University, Gonzaga University, Manhattan College, Marquette University, St. Louis University, St. Mary’s University, University of Dayton, University of Notre Dame, the University of St. Thomas, Villanova University)
Our program chair, Dr. Gina Martinez, shared that being a smaller program at a mid-sized institution gives our faculty a unique ability to work side-by-side with students. We are very excited about the future of this program.
