Ada Lovelace Day 2014
Ada Lovelace Day was designed to highlight the importance of the contributions women have made to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.
"Now I look at things in a different light than I had before…almost like in the Matrix where Neo takes the red pill and becomes aware of the truth and reality of his society and his environment. And like Neo, I am not changed as a person, but merely more aware of the reality of my society and thus will seek to do what I can to change it for the better."
"It is imperative to study Women’s Studies because for too long women have been ignored in academia, and the only way to ensure inclusion is to consciously bring women to the forefront of the conversation."
"If we never look at the big picture, we'll never benefit from the history that too many overlook. Women's and Gender Studies helps me witness and learn about those whose ideas and philosophies have been often cast aside, yet have brought my society closer to where it is today. It inspires me to go out and make the world a better place."
"Women's and Gender Studies is so diverse. The interdisciplinary aspect really gives me the opportunity to learn from some of the most gifted minds throughout the university, not just in one program."
