Be a part of the Legacy Society!

Lewis University's Legacy Society recognizes alumni and friends who have made the decision to provide for the University through planned or deferred gifts, including bequest intentions, charitable trusts, gift annuities, and other giving instruments. (See Ways to Give for more information.)

Through your will or living trust, you can designate Lewis University to receive a specific dollar amount or property, a percentage of your estate, or the residuum after other designations are fulfilled.

  • Bequests are vitally important to furthering the Lewis University Mission.
  • Bequests are simple and inexpensive to create.
  • A bequest can be changed or amended anytime during your life.
  • A bequest qualifies for estate tax deduction.

Sample Testamentary Language

For a specific request :  “I hereby give and bequeath $___________ from my estate to Lewis University, a Illinois not-for-profit corporation, Romeoville, Illinois, for its general purposes."

For a remainder gift: "I hereby give and bequeath all (or ____ %) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Lewis University, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, Romeoville, IL for its general purposes."

For a split interest gift:  The trust document or a memorandum of understanding will describe the purpose to which the charitable portion of the gift will be applied.

Benefits

What are the benefits and activities of membership in the Legacy Society?

The greatest benefit of Legacy Society membership is the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to secure the future of Lewis University. As a Legacy Society member, you will also receive an annual invitation to the President's Circle Dinner, which is held the first Friday in December to pay tribute to alumni and friends for their generous gifts in support of the University as well as notification of special programs and events. You enter into a relationship of a lifetime in which you are valued as an important member of the Lewis University family.
