MMEC

History and Foundations

The Midwest Mission Effectiveness Consortium first gathered in 2000 at Quincy University (Illinois) as an informal meeting of colleagues from midwestern colleges and universities who were charged with implementation of mission at their respective institutions. An expanded mailing list helped build the attendance for the second gathering of the group, which met in 2001 at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. Momentum continued to build and the scope of topics discussed at the symposium grew. In 2002, an even larger group of those responsible for Mission effectiveness and integration gathered at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. In 2003, our largest symposium to date was held at Marian College in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. It was at this meeting that the decision to formally organize the group as a consortium was made.

In addition to the annual symposium, the MMEC also hosts an email listserv, called MissionNet. This email communication tool allows members and participants of the symposium to continue to discuss the important issues raised each summer and to stay in contact with colleagues. The listserv is also a great way to collect information from colleagues at other institutions to obtain the collective wisdom of the group on particular topics and issues. To join the listserv, please email Kurt Schackmuth, list moderator, at schackku@lewisu.edu.
