The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Friday (May 31) that Lewis University juniors Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) have become the first members of the Women’s Flyer Tennis team in school-history to be named All-Americans, as the Hungarian duo was named to the 2013 ITA Women's Tennis All-America Team. To qualify for the team, players must meet one of these criteria: Finish in the Top 20 in singles in the final ITA College Tennis Rankings or finish in the Top 10 in doubles.
Lanstiak was recognized in both singles and doubles play, as she finished the 2012-13 campaign ranked 16th in the country as an individual and teamed up with Kranczicki to finish fifth in the nation. Kranczicki qualified in doubles play.
"Everyone in our tennis program is so very proud of the Zsofia's," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "They have added so much to the culture, attitude, and skill level of our tennis program. Together, they have been an outstanding doubles team over the past two seasons and have accomplished so much," Coach Bridel continued. "I am very privileged to have the opportunity to coach both of these outstanding young ladies. They represent Lewis University in the highest manner possible."
On the court, Lanstiak dominated her opponents, as she combined for a record of 53-3 in both singles and doubles play on her way to Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year honors for the second-straight season. In singles action, Lanstiak went 27-1, including a 23-match winning streak to end the season. Lanstiak and Kranczicki proved to be a formidable duo as they finished the 2012-13 campaign with a record of 26-2 and ended the season with a 16-match winning streak. Their only losses came against the then-No. 1 team in the country.
