Peer Ministry
The Vision of Peer Ministry
Peer Ministers have a practical day-to-day role at the University
in which they are asked to build meaningful and helpful
relationships with other members of this community. The Peer Ministry
Program exists to support students in their journey through their
college years at
Lewis University. The program seeks to enhance academic, community and
faith life for all undergraduate students at the University. By
providing listening ears in times of emotional need, pointing the way to campus
resources, sharing information, organizing activities and challenging destructive
or negative behaviors because of and in Christ's name, Peer and Associate Peer
Ministers are a valuable asset to other students and the University. These
students are called and motivated by their Christian faith to minister to
others. As skilled members of this Catholic and Lasallian community,
Peer Ministers encourage fellow collegians to be thoroughly involved with
and
dedicated to their studies, social activities, to the community, to their best
selves and to God. The Peer Ministry Program at Lewis University aspires
to help students who serve as Peers:
-
Develop skills and gain valuable experience
that will help them to become better Christian leaders and more
effective helpers both while at Lewis and after.
-
Represent faith to the University Community, to
be expressions of God's love, to evangelize and to help others develop a
deeper relationship with God.
-
Encourage others to act justly and
respectfully, to value the gifts and differences that others offer, and
to face the world and its challenges with a conscience that is
Christian.
-
Help others better understand their call to be ministers
of Christ's love in this world through practical day-to-day roles and through
commitments as lay men and women or as vowed or ordained religious.
