Work with the children and youth in the barrios, orphanages, and on the streets. Deliver donations of school and medical supplies and toys to the local hospitals, parishes, and communities of Sucre, Bolivia. Student Testimony - Before Bolivia I knew of poverty but had not experienced it firsthand. I was ready to help outside of North America but I was not ready for what I would see. In Sucre, there were pigs walking around everywhere, even right outside of the airport! Although I wasn’t used to seeing things through other people’s eyes, I was going to have to learn to because if I didn’t my next two weeks wouldn’t go too well. Growing up in a middle class family I was shielded from most forms of poverty. I’ve been to the soup kitchen a few times but I’ve never actually seen someone wasting away! In Bolivia, I saw people who couldn’t afford food for themselves let alone their children. As much as I started to question how people could live like this, I actually began to learn what true happiness was. In the U.S., our happiness is attached to how many things we have. That is not true happiness. In Bolivia, they live everyday in thanks to God because he has blessed them with life! Since experiencing life in Bolivia, I have changed my prayer life. I remember that I DO have more than many in the world. I now thank God for what I do have more than what I want. Bolivia is a beautiful country physically and spiritually and I was truly blessed to have been able to visit there.
