University Ministry

Mission Statement

University Ministry, in harmony with Lewis' Catholic tradition and Lasallian identity and values, embraces and nurtures enlightened religious experience within the Lewis Community.  University Ministry's primary focus is to be a sign and instrument of the Gospel by proclaiming and celebrating the Gospel, and inviting the University Community into this mission.  We seek to light hearts on fire for God's Kingdom - for lives, marked by zeal;

  • of Faith - loving the generous God made known to us through Jesus and the Holy Spirit and in the giftedness and dignity of all human beings;
  • of Service - becoming more generous and loving in our time, talents, and treasures;
  • of Community - celebrating and suffering with each other.

We, therefore, seek to promote an environment:

  • where faith is explored, celebrated and developed.
  • where members of the University community use their gifts to serve the church and the common good.
  • that raises and addresses social justice issues.
  • that forms leaders by discovering, eliciting, and developing their gifts.

We create this environment by offering programs:

  • to reflect on and to share the Gospel - liturgy, Koinonia Retreat, Busy Person's Retreat, Inter Varsity, prayer and reflection experiences.
  • to serve others - service locally, nationally, and abroad, and Peer Ministry.
  • to consider their lives as a witness to justice - Amnesty International, David Darst Social Justice Retreat, and SOA Protest.
  • to gather and celebrate together - liturgy, retreats, and times of fellowship.

We nurture this environment by being people who:

  • grow spiritually.
  • invite others to live, with zeal, lives of faith, service, and community.
  • welcome all and advocate for those in need.

"Persons recognize that gifts and talents are not given simply for personal advantage, but rather are to be used generously for the benefit of others, and that all future leaders are helped to discover and integrate this truth into their lives."
