International Student Services

Getting to the Lewis University Campus

The International Student Services will provide free transportation to new and returning international students at the start and end of each semester. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to campus at no cost.  Students are responsible for informing the Office of International Student Services (ISS) of their arrival/departure date and time at least two weeks in advance so we can be sure to have someone waiting for you at the airport when you arrive.  The driver will meet you at the baggage claim area and will be holding a Lewis University sign.

If a friend is meeting you, please be sure to pick a meeting place and stick to it.  Give an alternative just in case something goes wrong.  Two of the best meeting places are at the luggage carousel (where the luggage comes out), and outside the doors of the carousel (if your friend does not want to park and meet you inside).

Please note that the luggage carousels also known as "baggage claim" at the airport are often far from the gate so follow the signs for "baggage claim."  Usually, the flights arrive on the second floor and the baggage pick up carousels are located on the 1st floor.

If, however,  you prefer to get to campus on your own, there are several options:

Public Transportation

Metra Train System

The Metra Train System connects the suburban cities with Chicago.  You may learn about the Metra on the internet web page:  www.metrarail.com/ .  It contains general information, schedule information, ticket information, maps, and fares.  It also has a link to "Travel Guide to Chicago Attractions," which describes the attractions you can find from the two Chicago train stations, the Union Station and the LaSalle Station.

There are three nearby train stations:

  • Joliet Union Station
  • Lockport Train Station (13th Street and State Street)
  • Downer's Grove Station

You can find the routes of all these trains on the Metra web site www.metrarail.com/schedule.html.
