Lewis University students recently presented their 2014 Celebration of Scholarship research project, “Applying Critical Media Literacy Skills in the Science Classroom and Beyond” at the National Science Teacher Association’s STEM Conference and Expo in New Orleans.
People encounter media reports involving scientific findings or claims daily. The research project showed that science educators can lead their students to be more media savvy and better consumers of information in this digital media age by training students to question media, including electronic, text, and multimedia sources.
The research project included education students Brooke Bernardoni, Allison Hinton, Patrick Smith, Samuel Stunkel, as well as Kelly Reimer, Lewis alumna and Dr. Lauren Rentfro, assistant professor of secondary education.
