ESL and Bilingual Endorsement cohorts are forming

College of Education offering English as a Second Language and Bilingual Endorsement cohorts

Published: April 29, 2014.

The College of Education is now offering English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual Endorsement cohorts at the Lewis University Tinley Park campus with classes beginning May 28. The campus is located in the Tinley Park Campus North Creek Executive Center at 18501 Maple Creek Drive in Tinley Park.

The ESL Endorsement program provides candidates with expanded career opportunities grounded in a commitment to social justice, as well as multicultural education. It is available to candidates who currently hold a Professional Educator License with a Teacher Endorsement. After the 18 credit hour program, the candidate will earn an ESL Endorsement for the grade levels in which he or she is licensed. For those who are bilingual, the Bilingual Endorsement is available by finishing coursework and successfully completing the Illinois State Board of Education target language assessment.

The program offers candidates:

  • Individual attention to meet his or her personal and professional needs by working with instructors and advisors who have significant experience as professional educators.

  • A custom designed format to fit into a busy life with coursework that is delivered at convenient times and locations.

  • The option to earn a Master of Education degree and the possibility of attaining multiple endorsements, including an endorsement as a bilingual teacher.

  • The possibility of a committed faith-based cohort tailored to the needs of those serving in parochial schools.

“The ESL or Bilingual Endorsement program with Master of Education degree option provides classroom teachers with a deeper understanding of teaching strategies to support English language learners in their classrooms and their schools,” said Dr. Barbara Mackey, program director.

Both cohorts are available at a special discounted tuition rate of $250/credit hour. For more information, contact Linda Campbell, graduate and adult admission counselor, at (815) 836-5704 or campbeld@lewisu.edu.
