Paul and Kathy Kaiser receive the Frank J. Lewis Philanthropists of the Year Award for exemplary contributions to Lewis and surrounding communities

Published: December 27, 2012.

Dr. Paul Kaiser, professor emeritus of Mathematics and Computer Science, and his wife Kathy Kaiser received the Frank J. Lewis Philanthropists of the Year Award during a ceremony held at the Lewis University Main Campus in Romeoville. The award is presented annually to people whose generosity and service to the university is exemplary. Paul and Kathy Kaiser have been actively involved in local communities and have supported Lewis for over 40 years.

As a professor in the Mathematics and Science Department, Kaiser prepared thousands of students including many who now are leaders in the industry. Previously, Kaiser served as chair of the Mathematics/Computer Science Department, dean of students, and former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Kathy worked as a community organizer and social worker in the Joliet area, supporting the disadvantaged in numerous ways. Together, Paul and Kathy provide the perfect example of selfless dedication to helping improve the lives of others.

“Paul and Kathy really provide the model for what we are trying to do in Mathematics and Computer Science. We teach students skills and concepts that the world and its people need and we involve them in projects that demonstrate to them why the skills and concepts are important. Paul and Kathy have helped shape our approach and provide motivation for our program,” said Dr. Ray Klump, chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department
