Alumnus presents on orthopedic medicine

The past, present and future of orthopedic medicine presented by alumnus at Lewis University

Lewis University will host “Orthopedic Medicine: Past, Present, and Future…as I See It!” The presentation will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 in AS-158-A located at the university’s main campus in Romeoville. The presenter is 1968 Lewis University alumnus Dr. Charles M. Slack, a board certified orthopedic surgeon.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lewis University, he graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago in 1972. Slack is also a recipient of the 2011 Lewis University Alumni Achievement Award for his contribution in the field of healthcare.

The presentation is being sponsored by The Colonel Stephen S. and Lyla Doherty Center for Aviation and Health Research. The Doherty Center funds research and scholarly initiatives; encourages partnerships among the university, its students and the community; provides opportunities for research experiences for students with faculty mentors. Investigators supported by the Doherty Center have focused on areas such as: cardiac therapy, wound management, flight deck laser illumination, the environment, diabetes, MRSA, and alternative fuels for aviation.

This event is being presented as a part of Lewis University’s Arts & Ideas Program, providing cultural and educational programming for students and the community. A portion of the Arts & Ideas events is sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
