Math Circles Rounds Up Math Teachers

Published: May 31, 2016.

Lewis University recently hosted the Southwest Chicago Math Teachers Circle launch event. The network of 5-12 grade mathematics teachers and college professors in Chicago’s west and southwest suburbs recently formed to collaborate on developing and refining the problem-solving skills of local teachers and students.

The meeting locations rotate between Lewis University, Saint Xavier University and Trinity Christian University.

“Our hope is that this community of learners will provide math instructors a supportive network to discuss mathematical and pedagogical issues that arise in the classroom and give teachers support and resources to initiate more student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogies in their classrooms,” said Dr. Amanda Harsy Ramsay, assistant professor of Mathematics at Lewis University.

Lewis University offers a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics for High School Teaching Certificate, Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
