Lewis University Has Largest Student Contingent at MAA Indiana Section Meeting

The Lewis University group was the largest student contingent at the Oct. 17 Mathematics Association of America Indiana Section Meeting Oct. 17 at Purdue University North Central in Westville, Indiana.

MAA is the largest professional society for mathematics that is open to undergraduate students.

“It was great exposure for our students to network and see the possibilities available to mathematicians,” Dr. Amanda Harsy, assistant professor of mathematics, commented about the group she led.

The Lewis University students who attended were Dylan Groskreutz of Kankakee, Melanie Harrison of Tinley Park, Betsy Langland of Downers Grove, Leanna Pitsoulakis of Orland Park, Rachel Seiberlich of Warrenville, Ryan Toika of Villa Park and Taylor Weil of Chicago.

This is the latest example of activities Lewis University math majors participated in this year. The Math Bash showcased career and graduate school opportunities available to students with strong math backgrounds. The recent ACCA Mathematics Lecture Series included insights from professionals and recognized excellence as several Lewis University students were inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon Honors Society.

Lewis University offers a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science and Computer Engineering, with concentrations in Cyber Security, Web and Mobile Development, Data Science, and Video Game Development. It also offers minors in Computer Science, Cyber Security Science, Data Science, and Web and Mobile Application Development. At the graduate level, it offers a nationally recognized for a Master of Science in Information Security program, which includes an innovative fast-track that enables students to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in five years. A master's degree in Data Science is also available for students who wish to learn more about Big Data.
