Lewis University sophomore Alex Thode (Washington, Iowa/Washington) was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for October, the league announced on Monday (Nov. 11) after a vote of conference coaches.
At the Midwest Regional No. 2 (Oct. 14-15), Thode turned in a one-under 143 (70-73) to finish third overall as he helped the Flyers to finish tied for sixth overall.
Thode put together an average score of 76.25 through eight rounds of golf during the fall season.
"It is no surprise that Alex peaked at the Midwest Regional No. 2," Lewis head men's golf coach Skip Steffey said. "His ball striking was exceptional for two days and of course, he always has a great short game to complement his overall play."
The Flyers currently sit in ninth in the Midwest Region, which puts the squad in good position to qualify for the NCAA Super Regional in May 2014, after completion of the fall tournament schedule.
