Lewis University’s Mock Trial team had a successful start to its season Oct. 24 at the 2009 Quincy University Riverside Classic tournament. The 8th Judicial Circuit and Associate Judges, and practicing attorneys served as judges for the sixth annual tournament was held at the Adams County Courthouse. Lewis University’s mock trial team earned in 10th place, after tiebreaker procedures were used to resolve a six-way tie for sixth place.
Three Lewis University students received individual awards at the tournament. Freshman Cassandra Myers of Huntley, in her first tournament, won outstanding attorney with a perfect score. Junior Summer Hallaj of St. Charles, also with a perfect score, won outstanding witness. One point short of a perfect score, sophomore John Catalano of Elmwood won outstanding witness.
Freshman Derek Frommel of Willowbrook and senior Matt Kratky of Homer Glen missed the award for outstanding witness by only one point. Hallaj missed earning outstanding attorney by one point.
