ABSTRACT

Addressing challenges to community education is necessary prior to development and implementation of an effective presentation. Current research cites examples of issues facing nurses working in the community including effective teaching strategies for high-risk populations. Development and implementation of a community based service experience will identify the health promotion educational needs of caregivers from an affiliate agency associated with the Lewis University College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP). Collaborating with a local Head Start agency serving vulnerable children and their caregivers helps to ensure health promotion pediatric clinical experiences for nursing students. These experiences led to the identification of the need for illness education for the caregivers of the children served which is the focus of this project.
