Is it summer yet???

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Well summer is close, but not close enough! I have 6 essays due in the next couple of days and then studying for finals. I will be desperate for summer in a couple days. To add onto that, I have been busy like no other. Last night, I was out with the lady friend. Tonight, I went to a ballroom dancing lesson at Lewis (we’ll talk about that later). Tomorrow night I am going to an an army dinner event at Cantigny, and Saturday I am going downtown to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Needless to say I haven’t been home lately.

Going back to the Ballroom dancing, it was my first time ever doing it, and I really liked it. I went to get credit for a Philosophy class, as well as I always wanted to learn how to do it. It was a lot of fun actually and the complex-looking moves weren’t actually that difficult. I am thinking of taking lessons outside of Lewis, but we’ll see what the summer brings.

Anyway, I have some essays to write to til next time!

Easter break and such

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Well I hope you all had a good Easter break. I had a pretty good one, I got to SLEEP!!! I also got to see some friends from high school which is always good. As far as Lewis life is concerned, things are going very well. I just registered for classes and I am quite excited for next semester. I am only going to have class on Tuesdays, Thursdays and flying on Saturday mornings. It’s going to be early, starting to fly at 7, but oh well I’ll sleep when I’m dead (and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays). I want to get a job at an airport and work on those days I have off.

Classes are going very well this semester and they are almost over!!! 3 weeks left + 2 days of finals! I CAN’T WAIT FOR SUMMER!!!

Anyway, I have some scholarships to fill out, so til next time!

Few more weeks…

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

Well break is long gone, but Easter Break is fast approaching. It isn’t a long break, Thursday through Monday, but I still can’t wait for it. I just want to SLEEP!!! Classes are going very well this semester, but I still can’t wait until this semester is over. The part of summer I love is when I wake up and know that I don’t have any plans for that day (classes, homework, tests, work, etc.).

Life at Lewis has been coming alive! With the great weather, people are out playing football, frisbee and soccer like crazy. I love walking around campus in shorts and a hoodie. Flying has been great this semester too. Great flying weather and I am moving through instrument flying kind of quickly and it is so nice to move quickly with flying.

Back to school

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Well spring break is over. It was a good spring break for me though, I took my dad flying for the first time. He was a lot more nervous than I thought he would be but he really enjoyed it and he even thinks he might take lessons after I graduate. I also took my girlfriend on a flight to Michigan City, which was a great flight. We flew right along the lake shore, and it was a beautiful flight. Other than that, one of my friends invited me to see Jerry Seinfeld’s stand up at the Rosemont Theater. It was a great show and my first time seeing him live. I also slept A LOT over break and that was very nice to catch up on my sleep.

We are pretty much at the half way point for this semester and classes are going great. It looks like it will be one of my best semesters as long as my grades keep up. Some of my classes have proven to be a little boring, but they are Gen Eds and I just have to push through them.

Last off, as far as flying is concerned, I am quickly approaching a stage check which is kind of like a mid term for pilots. After this one, I will be able to fly in the clouds and in low visibility conditions with my instructor. Studying is taking up my life on that one, because half of the exam is on the ground talking about regulations and aircraft systems and the other half is flying.

Talk to you later

Spring Break!!!

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Well spring break is upon us and it couldn’t come a minute too soon. I have been DRAINED after this past week. from Sunday to Tuesday I wrote 21 pages worth of essays for scholarships and homework essays. It will be very nice to just sleep in and not do anything. Classes are going very well this semester, so far straight As. I just can’t believe that the semester is about half over. I can’t wait until summer, or well even when we get consistent 60 degree weather. I can’t wait to start mountain biking again and running Lewis’s nature trail.

I started volunteering to help Women in Aviation, partially because I have friends in in, but more so that my girlfriend is in it so I “volunteered” to join. Last Friday they held a fundraiser called “Extreme Home Makeover Box Edition.” It was held in the field house and we gathered all of the boxes from the furniture from the new science wing and attendees build their own box forts. It was an all night event but I only stayed until 1. I had work the next day and didn’t want to be completely wiped out.

End of Semester

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Well as we all know the semester is just about through. Classes are winding down and winter break is near. With the library open 24/7, a good number of my friends are looking a little sleep deprived. This semester it looks like the finals won’t be too rough.   The only one I am really concerned with is Instrument Ground School. It is pretty exciting though how the classes are slowing down. Today being Thursday, I only have 3 classes Tomorrow: Intro to Human Communication, which there is a presentation from a group speaking, Flight lab (when I go flying) which I thoroughly enjoy, so it doesn’t feel like a class, and Air Transportation, which I have a final in. Needless to say, Winter Break is  upon us!

With winter break almost here, all of my friends are talking and making plans for winter break. It’s real exciting to hear from friends who go to other schools. Thanksgiving break offers a taste of what’s to come for winter break, and it’s not that I have huge plans for break, it’s just going to be exciting not having to worry about studying for that test coming up or writing that essay.

Anyway, I have some Instrument coursework to study so take it easy all!

SNOW?!?!?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

So today is the infamous first day of flurries here in Romeoville, NOT GOOD!!! Now for me, I love summer and despise winter. Now that the snow is here is not a good thing! I hate being cold and yea, it isn’t a good day in my book. On the plus side,  though, Christmas is near! 44 days!  (Don’t question my logic, Christmas = Epic, Winter = Misery) What happened to this semester??? All the grounds faculty have strung up campus with Christmas lights and I can’t wait until they start lighting them up.

As far as classes go, I can tell that they are starting to wind down. The assignment schedules are getting shorter and the talks of final exams have started. I have just picked out my classes for next semester, and it looks like it is going to be mostly uninteresting gen eds (philosophy, music for listener, Search for Faith). But, on the positive side, this should be the last semester with mostly gen eds, which is very exciting. I also have determined what my minor will be, well actually double minor: Flight Dispatch and Business, so I pretty much have the rest of my time at college mapped out. If all goes well, I found out that I actually might be able to graduate early.

Onto the interesting flying stuff, I just signed up for airplanes for next semester. I am going to be flying Cessna 172′s with glass cockpits. I know that means a lot to you, but its a computer screen that I look at instead of the gauges of older aircraft. I also get to keep my time block of 9:30. Last year, I got stuck with the 7:00 A.M. flight block, which was very early, and I am not a morning person. I was waking up around 5-5:30 getting weather briefings and I resembled the walking dead once 6P.M. rolled around.

That’s about all I have for you, ’til next time!

It’s Official

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Well it’s official… I AM A PILOT!!! I took my Private pilot FAA checkride last Friday and needless to say it went well. It has been my dream since I was young to be a pilot and it is still surreal to me. I could go solo flying as a student pilot, but now I can take passengers and I don’t need a flight instructor’s approval when I fly somewhere else. So needless to say, I have been very excited these past couple of days.

With school, I can’t believe that there are only 6 weeks of class left in the semester. This semester flew by (no pun intended), and it still feels like its still the beginning of the year. The workload has started to catch up to me, with a speech for Intro to Human Communications tomorrow and a pretty large presentation for Aircraft Accident Investigation on Tuesday. With that said, I have some research to do. Talk to you later

What happened to warm?

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Well I am BUMMED!!! driving to school this morning, my car gave me the “ice potential warning” which warns me whenever the outside air temperature is below 40 degrees. I went golfing yesterday with a friend who was on his fall break and it was a beautiful day, perfect to go golfing. So needless to say, the ice warning threw me off. I hate winter, not December, just January and February, they are two awful months and there is nothing to do and its just way too cold, so I am enjoying it while it lasts.

As far as school is concerned you can tell fall is in the air. Our trees on campus are turning bright colors, it is beautiful to see from the air! I remember flying to Joliet airport and there was a forest preserve near the airport. The trees looked magnificent. I really want to take one of my lady friends up to Wisconsin to see the trees and rolling hills up there.

With school, I am finding this year’s workload to be not nearly as bad as I was expecting. The main complaint I had to restarting the school year is the fact that I HATE writing essays. Knock on wood, I haven’t had to write any! It is refreshing, and a great way to get back in the swing of things (even though the swing has been already going for a month and a half… no big deal). The studying is still there though, believe me on that one. Between instrument ground school, Flight lab, and Aviation Regulations, there has been no shortage of late nights with me. It is a little of a bummer though, because I have been getting up early to plan flights.  I usually get up at 5:30 to get a weather briefing and plan the flight to be at school for my 8 o’clock class.

Fall Break!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Hey all!
Well the week of fall break is here. I am not sure what justifies a fall break, but I really don’t care because we get a long weekend. I AM SLEEPING IN!!! The only bummer about fall break is that my professors like to use it as an excuse to give us some tests before hand, so sleep has been pretty low lately.

I started hitting up the Gym at the Rec Center after work. I used to play tennis at high school, but I have fallen out of the routine lately. It feels good to be back at it, but I am sore!

Anyway to the interesting stuff, I am coming up to my private pilot end of course exam soon, which is the test I take to get my pilot certificate. It is going to be great because then I can take passengers and start working on instrument flying.

Talk to ya later
