International Student Admission
Application Requirements
Note: See below for specific requirements regarding Freshman, Graduate and Transfer students.
Application
Submit an application with all sections completed. You can
download or complete an International Admission Application online.
Official Transcripts/Credential Evaluation
Submit official transcripts from all U.S. schools, if applicable. Transcripts from previous schools attended outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by either
Educational Perspectives,
WES or
ECE. Make sure the company will mail us the official evaluation after it is done.
Graduate program applicants with GPA under 2.75 (3.0 for certain majors) will receive conditional admission, and will need to increase their GPA to 3.33 through Lewis coursework before being fully admitted to the program.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
You must have official evidence of English proficiency, including a minimal score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (Internet-based) on the
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or minimal score of 6.0 on the
IELTS; or minimal level of Pre 1 on the
Stepeiken.
If your previous university is located in the U.S. or in a country where English is officially spoken, evidence of English proficiency is not required. If you are coming from an ELS language center, please provide an official certificate of level 112 completed, or a letter certifying the month and year you will finish level 112.
Affidavit of Support
All International Students must provide an Affidavit of Support (Declaration and Certification of Finances Form) if there is a sponsor or scholarship, with a minimal financial support of:
- $35,770 U.S. Dollars for Undergraduate program applicants (Bachelor's)
- $24,500 U.S. Dollars for Graduate program applicants (Master's)
A form is provided with the International application. You are also encouraged to use the
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services I-134 form. If the Cultural Mission will be responsible for your studies, bank statements are not required. However, you must provide an official letter with Lewis University and the student's full name on it, certifying that you are an applicant for the scholarship and will receive full tuition sponsorship after admission.
Official Bank Statement
Submit an official and recent bank statement (no more than 6 months old) from the person responsible for tuition and expenses (student or sponsor), with an explanation of whose bank account it is, and a minimal balance of:
- $35,770 U.S. Dollars for Undergraduate program applicants (Bachelor's)
- $24,500 U.S. Dollars for Graduate program applicants (Master's)
I-20 Form and SEVIS Fee
The I-20 form is received after being accepted to Lewis University. The I-20 form is needed to receive a student visa. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is a web-based system for maintaining information on international students and exchange visitors in the United States. Before interviewing for a student visa, you must pay a $100.00 USD SEVIS fee by going to
www.FMJfee.com.
ADDITIONAL FRESHMAN REQUIREMENTS:
Note: This is for applicants who have less than 12 transferable semester credit hours of college credit
SAT or ACT
An official SAT or ACT score is required for certain undergraduate majors, including: Air Traffic Control Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Dental Hygiene, Environmental Science, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Nursing, Pre-Professional programs, Pre-Pharmacy DAP, Radiation Therapy and Vascular Ultrasound Technology.
Be prepared to mail this to us if requested. You can research more information and register for the SAT test at
www.collegeboard.com or for the ACT test at
www.act.org.
ADDITIONAL GRADUATE REQUIREMENTS:
Note: Applicants that have received their undergraduate degree from a college or university outside of the United States must have the equivalent of a bachelor's degree to be considered for admission.
If you are currently completing your undergraduate degree, we can provide you with a
provisional admission letter until we receive your diploma.
Graduate Program Admission
Submit all documents needed from
your graduate program of choice.
ADDITIONAL TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS:
Note: A transfer applicant is one who has completed at least 12 transferable semester credit hours at another university in the United States or has the equivalent of 12 semester credit hours taken at a foreign university.
Visa Documents
Submit copies of your current I-20, I-94 and visa
F-1 Transfer Clearance Form
Once accepted, an F-1 Transfer Clearance Form needs to be submitted by your current school. A form can be found within the downloadable international application or you may request it from the international admission counselor.

Academic Information
- International undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
- International graduate students are required to maintain a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester.
