Financial Aid

Checklist

This checklist serves as a guide for students to ensure that their financial aid is processed in a timely and accurate manner. Some financial aid is awarded on a first-come-first-served basis due to limited resources, and/or have deadline dates in which paperwork needs to be sent in, so it is essential for students to turn in all paperwork, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the Department of Education’s PIN web site for use throughout the financial aid process at www.pin.ed.gov.

   

File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible on or after January 1. You may file the FAFSA electronically using FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or file a paper FAFSA. Paper FAFSA’s can be obtained through your high school counselor, public library, or from Financial Aid Services.

   

Complete and submit all institutional financial aid application materials before all deadlines, as well as, promptly respond to any school requests for additional information or documentation, such as copies of federal tax returns, verification worksheets, or other forms.

   

Apply for Lewis University Endowed Scholarships at www.lewisu.edu/admissions/finaid/financial.htm.

   

Search for private scholarships. www.collegezone.com; www.scholarship-page.com; www.fastweb.com; www.hsf.net (Hispanic Scholarship Fund)

   

Read all application materials and financial aid notifications. Most financial aid funds have certain conditions in order for a student to be eligible to receive them; i.e, grade point average (GPA).

   

Promptly sign and return your financial aid award letter. Please contact, Financial Aid Services at (815)836-5263

   

First time borrowers at Lewis University, complete the master promissory note for any loan(s) you are offered and wish to accept. Before you sign the promissory note, be sure to read and understand all of your rights and responsibilities.

   

Complete entrance counseling at www.mapping-your-future.org

   

If you have been awarded Federal Work-Study (FWS), plan to attend the Lewis University Federal Work-Study job fair August 30st, 2007 from 11-1 in the University Dining Room.

   

Promptly notify the financial aid office of any outside or private scholarship, grant, or other types of student aid you have received or expect to receive.
