CHINA
(College of Business Travel Study)

Summer: June 17 – 30, 2009

If you are Interested in expanding your career opportunities, becoming a more knowledgeable global citizen, doing interesting research, working on solving an important problem, or helping your company expand business in China, then join us as we visit and experience China!

This is the 5th trip to China organized by the College of Business and promises to be another interesting, useful and practical learning experience for alumni, graduate and undergraduate business, arts and sciences, education, or nursing majors.  Led by an experienced “Old China Hand”, you will find out about the real China from Dr Ian Gladding who lived, worked, taught classes, and did business in China for nearly 30 years.

With the rising importance of China, there is little doubt that the knowledge and understanding of China participants gain from this program will enhance career opportunities and help them get a job as other participants have in the past.  In fact, US News and World Report has cited  "Asian Business Development Specialist" as one of the up and coming professions for the future because of the rising importance of China and India.

Some highlights of the trip:

  • Travel to four cities in China – Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing – to compare and contrast American and Chinese business practices and culture in vastly different parts of China, as you visit government institutions, trade organizations, offices, and companies.

  • Find out about doing business in China by visiting American and Chinese companies such as Northern Trust, McDonald’s China Headquarters, Federal Signal, Moen, AIG, AMWAY, and Standard Air Products.

  • Be briefed on the challenges and opportunities in the China market by the US Consulate, the American-China Chamber of Commerce, and local Chinese experts from Sun Yat-Sen University.

  • Experience the cultures of ancient China and witness booming modern China: Visit the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and the commercial centers of Guangzhou (Canton), Shanghai, and Beijing.

The program fee does not include passport and visa fees, additional meals, supplies, purchases, and personal expenses.
