Students

  • Active chapters of the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma.

  • Co-host (with chemistry) of the annual science demonstration day for Lewis University - attended by over 100 students each year.

  • End of year physics department picnic.

  • Annual Participant in Tri-Beta Challenge - a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis

  • In the last three years, the Physics Team finished first once and second twice out of the eight to ten teams who participated each year.

  • Physics sponsors a lecture series with guest speakers discussing topics ranging from alternative energy sources to stellar astrophysics

  • Field trips

  • We have sponsored trips to Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Laboratory, Adler Planetarium, and the University of Chicago for the Compton Lectures.

Jose Guerrero and Chance Eiker presented a poster at the National American Academy for the Advancement of Science/American Association of Physics Teachers joint winter meeting in 2009.

Each year, our students give 10-15 presentations at the annual Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA) Symposium.
