Frequently Asked Questions

GPA

I received poor grades when I first went to college but went on for a Master’s degree and did very well.  Do you take graduate credit into consideration, especially if it will boost my GPA?
No.  The GPA is calculated on your undergraduate credit only.  This does include any undergrad credit earned after or during a Masters.

I won’t know if I qualify for the program until the evaluation is done.  Why do I have to apply and pay the fee in advance?
Most people have a general idea of what their GPA is.  If the transcripts are more complicated, it will take an advisor time to evaluate them.  If a student is serious about participating in the BAC/BSN Accelerated Track, they will be willing to make this first commitment.

Do I have any options if my cumulative GPA does not meet the minimum 2.75 requirement when I first apply?
When you apply, you must meet the minimum 2.75 requirement. There are no exceptions.

KAT

What is the KAT?
The KAT (KAPLAN Admission Test) is a computerized proctored exam. The test is a 91-question online, multiple-choice test that evaluates the basic reading, math, writing and science skills of students seeking entry into a nursing program leading to RN licensure.  The KAT has to be taken within 60 days of the date of your unofficial transcript evaluation.

When you say students are only given one opportunity to pass the KAT do you mean once a year?
No.  Students have one opportunity to take the KAT.  We recommend you obtain the KAT study guide to prepare for your one attempt.  You may go to
www.kaptest.com, click on Nursing and then click on Nursing School Entrance Exam for more details.

Progression

Can I move at my own pace while I am in this program?
No.  The BAC/BSN Accelerated Track is set up in a closed cohort model.

What do you mean when you say “clinical hours are done on the weekends”?  Does that mean every Saturday and Sunday?  What are the hours?
Clinicals may be scheduled both Saturday and Sunday.  As clinical hours are scheduled according to availability of the site and instructor, these schedules are not available until a month prior.

Can I switch to the daytime traditional nursing program if I am unable to keep up with the accelerated night and weekend format?
If there is space available and you have maintained an acceptable GPA, it is possible that you could move to the traditional nursing program.  The tuition would reflect the traditional rates.

Financial Aid

Will I qualify for grants with this program?
Students can apply for loans but do not qualify for grants since this is a 2nd bachelor’s degree.
