3+1 Criminal Justice Degree Program

College of DuPage students can now earn their associate's degree from COD and their Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University in just four years.

Take advantage of learning within COD's first-of-its-kind Homeland Security Education Center while earning your bachelor's degree from Lewis University.

Congratulations to our first 3+1 Criminal Justice degree program graduates. This program currently possesses a 96% retention rate.

Degree Format
This 129 credit hour program includes 93 credit hours of COD coursework and 36 credit hours of Lewis University coursework. Upon completion of the program, you will receive your associate's degree in Criminal Justice from College of DuPage and your Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University.

Instruction Location
All four years of coursework will be taught at the College of DuPage's Glen Ellyn campus. The student completes the 72 hours of coursework at COD to fulfill the requirements for the AA in Criminal Justice at COD. Upon completion, the student blends 21 credit hours of additional COD courses posted at the Lewis 300 level with 27 hours of Lewis Criminal Justice coursework and 9 hours of Lewis Mission courses with Lewis faculty on the COD campus. Note: The student must earn a grade of "B" or higher in the additional 21 COD credit hours.

Discounted Tuition
The 93 credit hours of COD coursework will be completed at COD tuition rates. The final 36 hours will be paid through Lewis University, at a significantly reduced tuition rate.

Who can enroll in the program?
  • Students who have completed an Associate in Arts degree in Criminal Justice at COD.
  • Students who have completed an Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice at COD and take the necessary additional general education coursework to earn an Associates of Arts or Science.
  • New students to COD who indicate their intent to enter the 3+1 program.
  • Students can apply for admission to Lewis when they are six months away from completing their associate degree.
