About the Author: Patricia Malone

Patricia Malone grew up on a farm in central Illinois. She received a BA at Carthage College and a Masters Degree in Education from National Louis University. She also has post-masters hours in gifted education. She has taught in Illinois for over thirty years.

Malone is also well traveled. She has been all over Europe but spent the majority of her time in Scotland, the land of her ancestors. Throughout her travels, she has collected numerous artifacts associated with sixth century Britain and the Celtic people.

The inspiration for The Legend Of Lady Ilena came from her interest in her Celtic heritage as well as her curiosity of how ancient Celtic tribes lived in 500 AD. Malone also has an interest in the Arthurian legends that have been passed down from generation to generation.

When writing, Malone is very concerned about authenticity. Although some aspects of Celtic life and culture are a mystery, she has done much research of the time period. In order to organize her thoughts for her book, Malone uses graphic organizers such as timelines and story maps, complete with her own drawings.

Malone began writing later in life, and The Legend of Lady Ilena is her very first novel. This novel has been well received, and was nominated for the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award.

Patricia Malone currently lives in Naperville, Illinois. She spends her time both writing and teaching. Schools can request a visit from this talented author.
