The Lowell Stahl Center for Real Estate Studies will be hosting our Fall Conference

On Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 The Lowell Stahl Center for Real Estate Studies at Lewis University will be hosting our Fall Conference. The conference will start at 8:00AM with a continental breakfast and networking, and at 8:30 we will have an interactive discussion focusing on “Overcoming Obstacles in the Real Estate Development Process”. The event will be held in at the Doubletree Hotel, 1909 Spring Road, Oak Brook, Illinois.

We have a terrific panel lined up for the event. Our speakers come from varying backgrounds and have completed some very significant development projects worldwide. They currently include:

Keynote:
Mr. Rich Hanson founder of Mesa Development, Rich Hanson brings over 30 years of real estate and accounting experience, leading the firm by establishing the strategic direction and investment strategy. His work is grounded by his belief in creating architecturally stunning urban settings located near civic and cultural centers—allowing individuals greater opportunity to contribute to society and enhance their lives. Prior to forming Mesa, Rich spent 16 years as President of Stein & Company and its successor Mesirow Stein Real Estate Inc., where he was involved in many of Chicago’s major developments, including the United Center and US Cellular Field. Prior to Stein & Company, Rich was a Tax Partner and Chairman of the National Real Estate Group, overseeing 93 offices globally, at Coopers & Lybrand (today Price Waterhouse Coopers).

Panelists:
Richard F. Tomlinson II, Managing Partner, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Chicago office. Under his leadership, SOM continues to design some of the world’s largest, most complex, and high-profile projects. Mr. Tomlinson manages professionals from various disciplines within the firm and oversees the progress of key projects for SOM. As the key liaison between SOM and clients, general contractors, construction teams, and specialty consultants, he ensures that SOM meets client expectations while working within established schedules and budgets.

Derke J. Price, Partner, Ancel Glink, Diamond, Bush, DiCianni, and Krafthefer. Mr. Price actively represents municipalities, park districts, school districts and other various local units of government and special private parties in their corporate and business affairs. He specializes in those matters related to the use and development of land, including construction disputes. He is the Chairman of the Plan Commission for the City of Naperville, acting Village Attorney for the Village of South Elgin and Special Counsel to the Village of Bellwood. He also advises and represents owners, developers, institutions, contractors, and design professionals in the arbitration, litigation and negotiation of zoning and land use issues, commercial contracts, construction contracts, life-safety issues, labor agreements, regulatory affairs, procurement packages and appeals at all levels. Mr. Price is a frequent speaker on issues related to land use and development and is the author of the chapter on Construction Contracts in the IICLE Handbook "Municipal Law and Practice in Illinois."
