Prior to coming to Lewis, Dr. Atra was a project finance officer for Mitsubishi Bank, Ltd., which at the time was the third largest bank in the world. He also worked as a senior business appraiser for Valuation Counselors, Inc., where he valued the stock of privately held companies. He has had training/consulting engagements with various firms including Merrill Lynch, McDonald's, and ITAP International. Additionally, he continues to assist start-up firms with capital raising, strategy and valuation. Dr. Atra has also had visiting teaching assignments in China and Brazil. His research is in the areas of investment strategies, international finance, valuation, and critical thinking. His has published in the Journal of Financial Planning and International Review of Financial Analysis. Additionally, he is co-author of three chapters in The Valuation Handbook by Wiley: Developing an Automated Discounted Cash Flow Model, The LifeCycle Returns Valuation System, and Lower Risk and Higher Returns:Linking Stable Paretian Distributions and Discounted Cash Flow.
Dr. Atra has worked for Mitsubishi Bank, and has extensive consulting experience to companies such as Dillon-Soares, Limited of Brazil, Merrill Lynch, and Hinckley Hardware Corporation. He's also worked in Japan, Brazil, and China. Dr. Atra is the Chair of the Department of Finance and teaches international finance and other finance courses.
