NATURAL SCIENCES FOR NON-MAJORS/MINOR
Minor Credit Hours: 20
Minors in Natural Sciences may take a Biology class only two times. If a student has not achieved a minimum of a "C" after the second attempt, the student may not repeat the class.
The Biology Department will award 3 hours of credit for our general education class 02-100 (Introduction to Biology) when students have received a score of 4 or 5 on AP tests. We do not award any credit for major classes based on AP scores.
Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Nursing, and Physics majors may not minor in Natural Sciences.
I. Choose from the following courses (20)
03-105 Introductory Organic and Biochemistry (3)
03-110 General Chemistry I (4)
03-111 General Chemistry I Lab (1)
or any higher numbered chemistry course
17-200 College Physics I (4)
17-201 College Physics I Lab (1)
or any higher numbered physics course
02-101 Anatomy and Physiology I (4)
02-102 Anatomy and Physiology I Lab (1)
02-103 Anatomy and Physiology II (4)
02-104 Anatomy and Physiology II Lab (1)
02-110 General Biology I (4)
02-111 General Biology I Lab (1)
or any higher numbered biology course
13-120 Mathematical Analysis (4)
13-200 Calculus I (4)
or any higher numbered mathematics course
70-200 Computer Science I: Programming and Algorithm Design (3)
or any higher numbered computer science course
II. If the student chooses a lecture course that has a laboratory element, the student must also take the laboratory part of the class.
III. For the Natural Sciences minor, a minimum of two 200-level or above science courses (6- 8 credits) must be taken at Lewis University.
IV. Liberal Arts majors who choose to complete the Natural Sciences minor as one of their two required minors must complete two unduplicated upper-division science-based or mathematics-based courses at Lewis University. In order to satisfy the upper-division requirement when this minor is applied to the Liberal Arts major, students who have completed 20 lower-division credit hours in courses listed above may request that two additional upper-division science-based or mathematics-based courses in other departments be approved by the advisor and Dean.
