DEGREE PROGRAMS FOR: AMERICAN STUDIES
OBJECTIVES
This interdisciplinary program is offered to undergraduate students with an interest in the entire scope and pattern of American culture. American Studies includes a major and minor and consists of courses in English and history, cutting across a wide variety of departments. Undergraduates with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies will be prepared to continue their education in a variety of graduate programs, including law school and MBA programs, as well as a variety of traditional academic areas such as English, history, political science and sociology. This program also provides an attractive minor for students entering careers in business, criminal/social justice, journalism, museum or archival work, psychology, social work or law. Currently, the administration of the American Studies major and minor is housed within the Department of History.
