PSYCHOLOGY (FOR SECONDARY EDUCATION CERTIFICATE [6-12])/BACHELOR OF ARTS
Total Credit Hours: 128
Major Credit Hours: 36
The Department of Psychology features a fully approved Psychology program that prepares candidates to teach grades 6-12 in Illinois public and private schools. The program is approved by the State Teacher Certification Board, in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education, and includes all of the requirements for a major in Psychology. Psychology majors should declare a minor in Secondary Education. See advisors in the Department of Psychology and School of Education for specific approval and a list or required courses.
Two options are available for students seeking Illinois teacher certification. Those majoring in Psychology may enroll in the Psychology Program or the Social Studies Program. For the Social Studies Program, a student majors in Psychology and completes a teaching minor in a social studies discipline. For the Psychology Program, the student majors in Psychology and completes a teaching minor outside the social studies area.
