SECONDARY EDUCATION IN SCIENCE WITH BIOLOGY DESIGNATION
Secondary Education Teaching Certification (Grades 6-12)
In conjunction with the College of Education, the Biology Department features a fully approved teacher education program which prepares candidates to teach in grades 6-12 in public and private schools in the State of Illinois. The program is approved by the State Teacher Certification Board in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education and includes all the requirements for a major in Biology. Biology majors will declare a minor in Secondary Education and should consult with advisors in both the Biology Department and the College of Education. The requirements for this program are the core courses for the Biology Major with the appropriate support course for the B.A. or the B.S. degree in Biology. Students selecting the B.A. degree must take 02-144 Earth Science (also required for B.S./Secondary Education majors), 02-496 Research Methods and two semesters of Physics.
